A bamboo is a sturdy plant with a root system that expands rapidly to take over the ground from other plants. When Banrai people need bamboo for construction or other projects, they just disappear up a hillside for awhile.Bamboo shoots are also plentiful in season and many villagers pickle them to have a year-long supply.
The bamboo lattice in the picture has a personal significance for me because I've mountain biked past the hiiltop area where they grow many times on an isolated trail that leads to a lovely waterfall and on up to Karen mountain tribe villages.
