Time Capsule

Loung Pen ("loung" means uncle) , my neighbor in Bang Saphan Noi, is quite upset because he lost is cell phone in the pond near these budding waterlillies. His monkey was taking a bath in the pond after picking coconuts for me, and when he bent down to pull the monkey out of the water, the phone slipped from his pocket.
A thousand years from now when archeologists excavate my pond, they'll write research articles and give lectures on Loung Pen's phone. They will restore the SIM card and see the pictures he took with the built-in camera.
In the meantime, I'm getting Loung Pen a new phone. I can't get him a little case with a belt clip because he never wears a belt.
Loung Pen has a colorful and checkered past. Everyone in the village knows that in his younger days he used to be a hit man for some influential people. That was a long time ago. Now in his sixties, Loung Pen still gets nervous when strangers ride past his house in motorcycles or pickup trucks. Even after all this time, revenge is still possible. I have been kind to him, and he reciprocates with a genuine friendship.
